For many of us, the introduction to the mind-body class formats of Yoga, Barre and Pilates Barre Fusion is a life-changing event.  I know this statement may seem overly dramatic, but please keep reading.   If you come from a background of typical gym workouts that center on strength training and cardio, your first Yoga, Barre or Pilates Barre Fusion class can certainly come as a surprise.   I often hear, “I didn’t expect that class to be so challenging.   It’s harder than any workout I’ve ever done.”   My answer always is, “Because it’s different than any workout you’ve ever done.”   Here at The Yoga Barre, we like to spice up our classes and always keep you challenged – both mentally and physically.

I could go on and on about each of our class offerings and what makes each different and special, but for this post I will focus on our newest class offering, Pilates Barre Fusion.

What is Pilates Barre Fusion?

Our Pilates Barre Fusion classes take the basic foundations of Pilates and combine them with ballet-inspired moves as well as incorporating elements of dance, yoga and strength training.

We base our classes on the basic fundamentals of both Pilates and classical ballet - correct spinal alignment, a neutral pelvic placement and constant awareness of the core as a stabilizer.

Our Pilates Barre Fusion classes involve high-repetition bodyweight exercises that hold the muscles of the legs, abdominals, glutes and arms under tension with the use of our unique bands for extended periods. This type of training leads to enhanced cardio fitness as well as strengthening the muscles that are required to maintain posture and stability through the joints.

What are the benefits of Pilates Barre Fusion classes?

Just like Pilates, Pilates Barre Fusion enhances posture through focusing on core strength, optimal alignment of the joints and improved balance.   Our classes are designed to be a full body workout.   We are at the barre using our one-of-a-kind bands for 50 minutes of the class and … we throw in some cardio!   It is such a fun class.

We incorporate a lot of spinal articulation throughout the class - forward flexion, rotational movements of the spine and hyperextension.  Correct use of external rotation of the legs, or turn-out, is also a big focus. This allows for greater movements of the legs from the hip, and inner thigh work is constantly emphasized as well.

What effect will Pilates Barre Fusion classes have on my body shape and size?

The larger the muscles you're working, the more calories you burn. Since Pilates Barre Fusion works your thighs, glutes and abdominals to fatigue, you'll definitely burn through some serious energy during and after class.  With consistent attendance in Pilates Barre Fusion classes, you'll build long, lean muscle. This increase in lean muscle means you’ll be burning up calories even at rest because your resting metabolic rate increases. More importantly than weight loss, though, are the improvements you'll see in your posture and muscle tone. This will enable you to both feel and look longer, leaner and more confident.   You will also see an increase in your strength.

What has the response been to your Pilates Barre Fusion classes?

Our clients are LOVING Pilates Barre Fusion classes and want more!   It is such a fun class to teach.   Carrie and myself are absolutely LOVING every minute of teaching this class.

Helpful information prior to attending your first Pilates Barre Fusion class.

If you have not done a minimum of 10 barre classes with us, I highly recommend attending a Pilates Barre Fusion info session at The Yoga Barre.   In the info session, setup, proper band positioning and alignment are thoroughly covered in order to help you get the most out of your classes.   Socks are required.

Look for an info session on our schedule soon!

XOXO,

Sandi
